studio apotroes exists to fashion furniture and materials that are conscious, alluring, and accessible.
Marrying traditional and new fabrication techniques and materials studio apotroes aims to push the boundaries on the contemporary understanding of furniture design and materiality to provide a new image of sustainability that is inclusive of multiple aesthetics. Through our designs and products, we want to not only offer practical home goods designed to last multiple lifetimes but also explore what and how those goods can be produced to outlive the owner with minimal environmental impact. As such we have two different lines of goods: our main line features traditional materials like sustainability-sourced wood, recycled metal and glass, diverted stone, and organic fabric which utilize traditional and modern fabrication techniques. As well as an experimental line (D&RE diversion and re-application/use/cycle) of limited edition designs that utilize new and unconventional materials like ceramics made from oysters, textiles from cactus or bacteria, and more. These pieces will be released throughout the year depending on various factors, follow us on Instagram and subscribe to our newsletter for updates and first access to these one-of-a-kind pieces.
Our definition of sustainability is holistic and expands beyond the conventional one focused on purely on the natural environment. We are developing a company that is also culturally and financially sustainable. We are priced as such to provide our employees with a living wage and ensure that the materials we use are sourced to match this ethos. We understand however that wages for the average worker have not grown at the same rate as inflation or prices, wage theft is ubiquitous, and more generally people are underpaid; so we are happy to offer financing and payment plans just shoot us an email.
A majority of our pieces are made in our San Antonio and NYC-based studios but also partner with local craftspeople to bring some of our other designs to life. studio apotroes is not a big box store or a mass production company, we are a small design studio that wants customers to love and cherish each piece they bring into their home for generations to come. We accomplish this and minimize production waste by making each of our pieces to order and as such have a lead time of typically 6-8 weeks.
Although we are a small company and the issues we want to tackle require both systemic and individual changes snowballing into collective change to ward off environmental destruction.
